Ritual of Rejoin
Short film, 2022
Ritual of Rejoin is the short film that initiated my enthusiasm in building a future mythology of the ocean, which then expanded into speculative world-building. It explores the speculative origin mythology of an oceanic spiritual practice. In a far away future, where the ocean level has risen so much that it is seen from everywhere, and heard from everywhere, a group of women are seen in the Caves of Surrender to enact a ritual to immigrate to the ocean. The ocean is a mother, a nurturer and a torturer for them. An unexpected attendee of the ritual starts the turn of events that changes the path of humanity towards a cetaceanic dream as the narrator reveals their identity in a meditative narrative poem. This short movie also follows the form of a guided meditation as an experimental arc, aiming to draw the viewer into this ritual experience where the sounds of breaths mix with the sounds of the ocean.
